The "what are you listening to" thread!

Recommended Posts

Post links to the music you're net-jamming to at the time being.

Please take into consideration that some people do browse the forums with speakers on instead of headsets, and they may not want to click links that have NSFW content in them while they have company or young ones around. If your link has NSFW content (drug use, profanity, brief nudity or crude images, etc) please put a indicator that it is NSFW.

I've seen this type of thread on many other forums and they have been a ton of fun. Let's see if this can achieve the same popularity.

With that being said, I'm going to try to post at least 1 song I'm listening to every day or two.

To start it off, one of the best in his prime. Nas is considered a lyrical genius and while his album NY State of Mind is not well known, a lot of people in the hip hop community consider it to be one of the best albums of all time. I've heard this song 100s of times and it never gets old. Enjoy :)

Thanks for posting this thread Myth, it's interesting to see what everyone enjoys listening too.
As for me I've been listening to these two songs a lot since his album released last month.

I've been listening to a whole bunch of Monstercat lately, here's my favourite song.

Monstercat is pretty good man. Thanks for sharing :)

This thing doesn't have to be a 1 time only deal. Keep posting guys! I love to hear different tastes in music. I'm sure I'm not the only one :d

What's been playing on my iPod recently:

Man I remember Red when they only had 1 EP out :d

I actually helped get them on a local radio station by requesting their music so much via social media. Was pretty cool to finally hear them on it before I quit listening to radio altogether.
Some more oldschool stuff for you guys! DJ Premier did all of Gang Starr's beats. People consider them the best DJ/MC duo. Very good stuff :)

Yeah I bet, that's really cool. Was it Breathe Into Me? I believe that was their first single.

What I really like about the band is how they can just be rock, like the songs above.
Or, something softer like:

Or, even a mix of the both:

It was, in fact. My favorite song from them is Pieces. So beautifully done.

Oldschool/1 newer song from some Texan rappers :)

UGK was a two person rap duo (Bun B & Pimp C) from Houston, TX. They pretty much put Texas on the map for the rap game along with DJ Screw and a few other guys during the 90s. Pimp C died in 07, but Bun is still rapping and has gotten a lot better. They were pretty much best friends, so Bun pays homage to Pimp C in a lot of his music even today.

Z-ro is probably my favorite rapper. He's been around since the 90s and used to be really close to another Houston rapper that goes by Trae The Truth. They formed a lot of rap groups in the past and it's rumored that they'll be working on a new collab album soon. One of my buddies from Dallas actually DJ'd a show for Z-ro once and the only thing he said about it was that he was a great performer, went for like 3-4 hours straight, but he would never mess with him outside of the venue.. dude is about as OG as it gets.

Wow, I went a completely different direction - but my low game scores might be a good indicator that I may need to check this metal stuff out!

If you're in the mood to camp and reflect while camping., try these:
Chloe Agnew - Sigma

Samuel Barber - Adagio for Strings

*Was used in Platoon

I don't always listen to the slow stuff, but to rev things up I like to usually play old school industrial/electronic stuff from back in the day like this:
Meat Beat Manifesto / God OD

KMFDM - Godlike (where they ripped a loop from a Slayer song)

Ministry:
Deity

Thieves (mosh pit staple when I used to do the industrial club scene back in uh.... um 19x9!)

Jesus Built My Hotrod (came later in the 90s)

Logic <3333333

This is some white kid from Maryland. Goes so hard in every song I've heard him in. His lyrics and flow are really good compared to a lot of rappers in this generation. Has definitely been noticed as of late, gets a lot of love from a lot of places. Reddit's HipHopHeads grew really fond of him really fast.
