$rankup broken?

I did not try it myself (*no reason too) but more than once in the past week I saw chat indicating $rankup is not working in case an admin would like to check that out.

The post was 'old' and went from reports from other players (in game chat).  I did not try it out myself (no reason to) and was just reporting it on their behalf.  I don't even remember the nicks involved...
